We are LIVE! Traveling CHEAP!

How we travel cheap in college! What’s the Move Podcast episode 1 is HERE! For the first OFFICIAL episode, I will be joined by one of my roommates, and my travel buddy, Cammie Mitchell. Cammie and I are pretty much on the same page when it comes to traveling. We love cheap college trips. Our favorite way to pass time is stalking Google Flights and booking cheap plane tickets. The 2 of us have a pretty strong track record for driving or flying somewhere and having absolutely no plans once we get there. We like to figure out the plan as we go. This works GREAT for us 70 percent of the time. We usually get a pretty good story out of the other 30 percent.

I met Cammie my freshman year of college in our Freshman Leadership Organization. Shortly after becoming friends, I convinced her to go on our first ever trip together to Rosemary Beach, Florida in May of 2021. Since then, we’ve planned more trips than we should, but we can both agree that we don’t regret any of them.

Road Trip of our Dreams

Fall of 2022 was the year we were going to go on the road trip we had dreamed of for so long. We planned to go to the Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Fiesta. We are proud of this trip, and like to consider ourselves trip influencers for this one. After posting videos and photos, we had at least 10 people ask us about the details so they could go on the trip the next year. I guess it was that iconic. So, tune in and hear all the details about how we pulled off this trip in the middle of our fall semester.

To give you some spoilers– these three things are KEY:

  1. HipCamp
  2. Fall Break
  3. PB&Js

Cammie and I have traveled A LOT, together and separately. Cammie has traveled across Italy with her phone completely dead, and I’ve traveled countless times to Colorado and have paid strangers to drive me across the state. *Disclaimer* I don’t  recommend this as a college aged girl, but you’ll hear why this happened soon. We’re grateful for these travel hiccups because we have some pretty great stories to tell now. Listen now to find out how we travel cheap in college!

Relationships + College

Relationships in college can be hard. Whether it is a relationship with your friends, family members, or a significant other, they are never easy.

Everyone needs a big sister, and that is what we are here to do. Talk about the good and bad related to dating, friendships, and life in general.

During this episode, Saige and I welcome the person who completes our girl gang, Eleeza, to dive into the topic of dating in college. Though we usually spend most of our time gossiping in a booth at Chili’s, but today we had to settle for our living room.

In this episode, we talk about the behaviors and actions that are needed from both parties of a relationship to make it a healthy and fulfilling relationship.

Specifically, we talk about communication, quality time, trust, support, and compromise.

Long Distance Relationships In College

However, we also talk about just how hard dating can be while in college. We are constantly changing as people, and this is a time in our lives when we are exploring new opportunities. Our uncertainty about the future, maturity levels, and social pressure all play a role in what happens to our relationships.

All three of us have been in long distance relationships in college. While some of these relationships have gone better than others (lol), our experiences have allowed us to have different point of views on having a long-distance relationship in college.

Relationships in college can be hard, buy when they are long-distance relationships with someone in another town, state, or school it presents a totally different challenge. This is where we talk about our own personal experiences with long-distance relationships while in college and talk about it from our point of view.

Come laugh, and potentially cry, during this episode with us. We get into the good, and bad, associated with all things dating during college.

Don’t miss out on our podcast or those from our friends!

Calling all muckrakers! Your favorite muck-free podcast, Don’t Be A Stick In The Muck, is glad to present a new episode; The P Word!

Before college I didn’t know the first thing about what goes into The P Word…Yes, that P word…Politics.

In this episode we bring in Political Science student, and soon to be graduate, Jackson Hennigan to talk more about how he got involved in this major and why it is important to our society.

To learn more about what goes into this dense topic, these are some action steps that I would encourage you to take:

  •  Politics can be tricky, and to determine whether or not you want to get involved is the very first step you have to determine.
    • This could involve some pretty intense soul-searching, so I would do this before getting involved in anything too serious.
  • Just because your family members have a certain political affiliation does not mean that you, by default, will have to join this same political affiliation.
    • However, by looking at what your family’s political affiliations are, you can set a basis for your own.
    • Traditionally, our values growing up help to shape our values into adulthood.
  • Look into what you are passionate about and do some research on what legislation is being passed towards this action.
  • If the thought of politics still seriously freaks you out, check out this cheat sheet: Politics for Dummies.

We hope to serve as your guide for taking those baby steps towards becoming an active member of today’s political society. We aren’t saying you have to agree with our values, our political affiliations, or anything as a whole. We just ask that you bring an open mind!
