In Cody Wyoming, two college wrestlers found themselves in a near-death situation. Brady Lowry and Kendell Cummings were out on the mountains antler hunting in pretty thick woods. They happen to run into a full-grown grizzly bear and almost ended on the bear’s dinner menu.
They didn’t realize there was a bear since the brush was very thick until they were too close to escape. Brady Lowry said once the bear got on top of Kendell Cummings and started attacking him he didn’t know what to do. He jumped on top of the bear’s back and pulled the bear’s ears trying to get the bear off of Kendell. At this point, the bear already tore Kendell up really well. Kendell stated, “I could hear when his teeth would hit my skull, I could feel when he’d bite down on my bones and they’d kind of crunch”. After Brady got the bear off of Kendell the bear chopped down on Brady’s arm crushing it into pieces. Once the bear let go of Brady’s arm both of them ran as fast as they could to get away from the bear.
As soon the two men broke free from the attack they call 911 which elicited an immediate response from both Park County Search and Rescue and personnel from the Wyoming Game & Fish Department. Luckily as
well there were some local hunters around to help Brady and Kendell when they reach the local trails. Kendell had to be life flighted from the trails and Brady rode in an ambulance back to the hospital.
Both men, wrestling teammates at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming, reportedly underwent multiple surgeries after sustaining major lacerations to the body and face. Kendell stated “I don’t know what I’m going to pay him back, I don’t. I owe him everything,” regarding Brady.
Brady and Kendell are on a long road to recovery but are just happy to be alive.
