This Podcast covers the adventures of 6 PPIP/ANRP roommates of Crystal Plaza 503S (also know as Washington DC Hillterns) and how we not only survived, but thrived at our internships and our summer. Follow along with me, Jade…Dominique, Annabel, Taylor, Rachael and other stories from our roommates, Callie and Ellie. We will give you the inside scoop on our time at Crystal Plaza.

Washington DC Hilltern Interns on the loose

From Annabel searching for slurpee lids and rocking dad sunglasses, to the delicious 7/11 brownies that kept us all afloat throughout the summer, a guitar signed by ex-speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy, and a less than savory breakfast spot next to 7/11, this podcast will give you the insider information into our experience in DC

ANRP/PPIP interns, as someone that was also terrified for my internship in DC. I watched what felt like a countless amount of podcasts about how to behave in the office, the best ways to commute, how to take the metro, and more extremely boring topics of the such. Think of this as the anti-podcast podcast. What I mean by that is, instead of discussing what to do in the office, we touch on what to do outside of the office to capitalize (get it…nation’s capital?)  on your time in DC as Washington DC Hillterns.

This episode will cover:

  • The best treats to buy at 7/11
  • Why to befriend the doorman, Cameron at Crystal Plaza
  • How we **almost** won a guitar signed by ousted speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy
  • The importance of showing up to out-of-office events
  • And more from the Washington DC Hillterns

After the podcast/Behind the Scenes:

Here is the behind the scenes information of concepts and pictures mentioned in the podcast. From spotify playlists, to text messages, and funny pictures.

Fireworks on the Potomac with Washington DC Hillterns
Fireworks on the Potomac

Before you begin reading our sneak peeks and behind the scenes clips for Episode 2 of the mini series, Doozies in DC, I have a suggestion. Open this playlist so you can truly be immersed in what myself and the roommates of 503S were listening to during the 4th of July festivities at our Nation’s Capital for our Washington DC Hillterns.

Fireworks in DC with Washington DC Hillterns

This episode will give some of the most pertinent information for summer ANRP/PPIP interns in DC. With the most important takeaway being…DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GO TO THE NATIONAL MALL TO WATCH FIREWORKS. There will be way too many people and you will have to be there multiple hours in advance. Don’t get me started on how long it’ll take you to get home on the metro after.

However, I have a secret to share with you of how to have the BEST firework experience in DC.

Enjoying 4th of July Fireworks:

-Find a location other than the National Mall. We suggest sitting across from the Potomac or renting a kayak or other boat so you can be directly on the body of water.

-Pick up a cheap food like pizza

-Bring sparklers

-Leave quickly (or slightly early) if you don’t want to wait forever for the metro

Other important suggestions: Do not invite your Judo teacher neighbor with two kids to your cookout.

Now, sit back, listen to the eagle screech playlist, and get ready to have the ultimate patriotic listen. This is how to enjoy 4th of July in DC with your favorite members of 503S.

Behind the Scenes:

The playlist you listened to was called Eagle Screech and was made by myself, the roommates of 503S, other Washington DC Hillterns, and friends with very strict guidelines:

It must mention America, an American city, beer, guns, cowboys, liberty, eagles, red, white, and blue, make us feel proud to be Americans, or receive a majority vote of being American enough. Additionally, there were no British artists allowed on the playlist.
