In episode one of What Am I Doing With My Life?, we’ll be talking to two of my closest friends as they navigate the process of getting into professional school, specifically med school and vet school. This episode is also perfect for anyone who is thinking about going to grad school or is just not sure what to do after graduation.

We’ve gone to school together since the fourth grade, and we’ve been friends for over half our lives. Despite having vastly different ideas of what we want to do with our lives, we have always had a lot in common family wise. From Franklin’s story, you’ll hear from someone who didn’t get in on the first try, juggled jobs, moved back with his parents, moved back out, and juggled more jobs. Would he have liked to get into med school on the first shot? Absolutely. Is it anything a little perspective can’t help? Absolutely not.

I didn’t meet our second guest until I was already at A&M. I met Maddie as an Impact counselor my freshman year at A&M. We were counselors together in Delta Asher. After camp was over, I started to develop a close-knit friendship with Maddie and Carly, my wife. Maddie is an aspiring veterinarian, and she was recently awarded the opportunity to go to vet school in Dublin, Ireland. However, the painstaking process came with moving back home, rejections, and international learning curves. They can’t teach you how to navigate these scenarios in school, but Maddie feels she learned a lot and would love to share her experience with others who are feeling lost or are in a similar situation.
