Episode 1: Latin America
Moving from Latin America to the US for college is a significant life-changing experience. It can be exciting, challenging, and daunting at the same time. Despite the challenges, there are many rewards to studying in the US as a Latin American student. One of the most significant benefits is the opportunity to receive a high-quality education. The US is home to some of the world’s most prestigious universities, and many Latin American students choose to study in the US to gain access to these institutions, such as Texas A&M University.
In this episode of Aggie International Talk, me and our guests will discuss these challenges and rewards while sharing the good and not so good experiences as we reminisce over our college years here at a A&M.
Meet our guests
Our first guest, Angela Araujo Chavez, is a graduating senior majoring in Economics, moving to the US from Venezuela straight after high school. She attended a community college for two years and eventually transferred to Texas A&M. She now volunteers her time helping advise other students like herself that wish to get into a university by talking about her personal experience and guiding others through this process.
Like her, our second guest also moved from Venezuela in 2019 Juan Andres Perez, is a senior in Mechanical Engineering who always dreamed of attending Texas A&M like his cousin, and today he has already successfully landed his dream job working as a motor engineer. He feels as though this experience has helped him tremendously to grow as a person and feels ready to go anywhere life takes him now.
Alejandra Gonzalez is a freshman who moved from Ciudad de Mexico in 2020 and now majoring in accounting, she loves the diversity that Texas A&M has shown her, but still hopes to find her crowd here and become a successful professional while navigating the struggles of being a first-gen American college student.
