Welcome back to Daijobu Diaries, a podcast all about Japanese anime, discussed by a bubbly cast of American college students. My friends and I are excited to have you, especially for this week’s very special episode, where we will be talking about not just one, but two anime, and comparing their war themes.

The Hosts

Your host, Erin Griffin, is a graduating senior of Texas A&M University. She has been watching anime for 3 years now, and has almost 100 anime under her belt.

Your co-host is Kit Karau, another Texas A&M student. At 21 years old, they have been watching anime for 13 years now, and are Daijobu Diaries’ local anime veteran.

Attack on Titan & Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

In the second episode of Daijobu Diaries, we are focusing on two highly praised shows, Attack on Titan and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood with special guest, Aaron Lamb. Both of these shows consistently rank in the top 10 most popular anime on MyAnimeList.com, with Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood having dominated the #1 spot for years.

Attack on Titan, written by Hajime Isayama, began airing in 2013, and has since become an international phenomenon. Between all of its seasons, it has amassed an average community score of 8.75/10 on MyAnimeList.com.It also has clinched the #1 spot for top rated TV episodes on IMDb.com, taking up 11 of the top 50 spots in the same list.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the second TV adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa’s manga, Fullmetal Alchemist. It is regarded as the “true” adaptation of the manga because it follows it more faithfully than the original 2003 adaptation. It scores a 9.14/10 with the community on MyAnimeList.com and it is commonly referred to by anime fans as the best written anime of the last 30 years.

Special Guest

Our second guest on Diajobu Diaries is Aaron Lamb. He is a student at the University of Houston, and offers us a special perspective on these war stories as a history major. Lamb has been watching anime for 3 years now.
